Measurement systems for safe sports surfaces

Sports surfaces must comply with international standards. Wireless Value develops wireless measurement systems used worldwide to test and certify sports pitches, ensuring athletes can perform at their peak in a safe environment.

Why test sports surfaces?

A high-quality sports surface helps prevent injuries and ensures that athletes can perform at their peak. For this reason, international sports organizations such as FIFA, World Rugby, FIBA, and World Athletics set strict requirements for field quality.

Regular testing determines whether surfaces still comply with the required standards. Our wireless measurement systems make this process efficient and reliable—providing measurement data that is internationally recognized.

Challenges faced by sports professionals

Stricter international standards

FIFA, World Rugby, and other sports organizations regularly tighten their requirements. Certification requires equipment that is always up-to-date with the latest protocols.

Regular recertification

Sports fields must be inspected periodically. Efficient measurements are essential to minimize downtime.

Natural grass and artificial grass

While artificial turf was previously the primary focus of testing, there is now increasing attention to natural grass pitches. Both require specific testing methods.

Quality monitoring

Veroudering en slijtage zijn tijdig zichtbaar door regelmatige metingen. Dit helpt bij preventief onderhoud en budgetplanning.

KNVB Eredivisie

All Eredivisie football pitches are tested with our AAA meters. These meters are used for periodic inspections and (re)certification according to FIFA requirements. This ensures that top Dutch footballers can play on pitches that meet the highest international standards.

Rugby field

Rugby World Cup

During the past two Rugby World Cups, our HIC meters were used for pitch quality control. Reliable surface measurements are essential in rugby – head injuries are a significant risk, and a good surface helps prevent them.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I test different sports with one device?

Yes, the AAA meter is suitable for multiple sports. Simply select the appropriate test protocol in the app (FIFA for soccer, World Rugby for rugby, etc.). The device automatically adjusts the measurement method.

How often should the device be calibrated?

Annual calibration is recommended for optimal accuracy. Depending on usage intensity and your organization's certification requirements, this may be more frequent. We offer global calibration services.

Does the equipment work in the rain?

The devices are designed for use in various weather conditions. Extreme rain can affect measurement results; for the most reliable results, it is recommended to measure in dry weather.

Can I test old artificial turf fields?

Absolutely. Our equipment is suitable for both new and existing fields. Regular testing helps monitor aging and wear, allowing for preventative maintenance to be planned.

How long does a full field test take?

Depending on the field size and number of measuring points, a FIFA test typically takes 2-4 hours, including reporting. Our wireless technology saves significant time compared to traditional cable methods.

What is the difference between field testing and lab testing?

In field test mode, tests are performed in the installed field under practical conditions. In lab test mode, samples, test setups, or new products can be measured under controlled conditions. The app offers both modes.

Can measurements be used for research?

Yes, the CSV export allows for detailed data analysis. Our meters are used by universities and research institutes for studies on sports surfaces, injury prevention, and equipment development.
